From IHT:
Mahmoud Darwish, the world’s most recognized Palestinian poet, whose prose gave voice to the Palestinian experience of exile, occupation and infighting, died on Saturday in Houston, Texas.
Darwish was my introduction to Palestine. I can imagine that’s true for a lot of people like myself who, as students, fell in love with either Arabic or the Middle East or for whatever reason picked up a translation. Unfortunately, It Was Paradise drew me in, made me wish I could read his words in Arabic (I still can’t, though spoken, I get some), or that the rest of his works were translated.
And so today, another great soul lost.

So, so sad! J, I was just asked to go to Palestine this month, coincidentally but having a hard time juggling the schedule. Would love to hear how you are doing. Drop me a line if you get a chance.
